How It Works

Using the Tool

What does ICD Finder do?

ICD Finder is a database of all 74,000+ active ICD-10-CM codes. Besides looking up and sorting codes, ICD Finder can also use AI to read text or an image of an assessment and plan and extract the most appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for billing.

How do I use the Extract Codes feature?
1 Select a specialty context (e.g. Neonatology, Emergency) to help the AI prioritize relevant codes or choose all codes to see all results.
2 Paste text or upload an image, scan or picture of your de-identified assessment and plan.
Tip: For extracting codes from images, ensure they are clear and correct their orientation before submitting.
3 Click Extract Codes. Before submitting, you'll be asked to confirm that no PHI is present.
4 Review the results. Click any code card to copy it or use Copy All to copy all codes at once.
What do the confidence levels mean?
High The AI identified a specific, clearly documented diagnosis or condition with strong supporting clinical detail.
Moderate The finding is present but the documentation is somewhat general or ambiguous. The code may be appropriate, but a more specific code may exist.
Low The AI inferred this code from limited or indirect clinical language. Treat as a starting point only.
Are the codes verified?

Yes. Every code suggested by the AI is automatically cross-checked against the full 2026 ICD-10-CM code set published by CMS.

Even though the codes are verified, it is up to you to review them for clinical appropriateness before use.

Protected Health Information

Is the AI tool HIPAA compliant?

Medications and treatment plans (without patient-identifying context)

Disclaimers & Limitations

How accurate is the AI?

AI can make mistakes. Verify all suggested codes independently.

Is this tool a substitute for a certified medical coder?

No. ICD Finder is a reference aid for clinicians and staff who need a quick starting point for diagnosis codes. It is not a substitute for your clinical judgement.

How current is the ICD-10-CM database?

The code lookup database reflects the 2026 ICD-10-CM code set published by CMS, effective October 1, 2025.
